Refraction quilt pattern by Stephanie Soebbing
Create the look of a six-pointed star medallion quilt without any of the fuss. This quilt is made entirely from a jelly roll and coordinating yardage. The diamonds are strip pieced and assembled on the diagonal, so there are no fancy templates or Y-seams to deal with. You just need an equilateral triangle ruler and you’re ready to make this quilt. Refraction is so simple, you can easily complete it in a weekend.
The pattern is named for the phenomenon of light bending when it passes through an object. You may remember this effect from science glass when light appears as a rainbow of color when you look through a prism. The color changes in this quilt as it moves from the center of the star to the points made the name seem appropriate.
